Est\u00e1 a 65 km de la capital mexicana (por carretera hay 63 km hasta el Paso de Cort\u00e9s). Como varias monta\u00f1as de M\u00e9xico, fue venerada e idolatrada en el pasado y es motivo de admiraci\u00f3n porque su forma coincide con la silueta de una mujer yacente. Mide 6 km en l\u00ednea recta desde la cima de la cabeza a los pies y ocupa el tercer lugar entre las monta\u00f1as m\u00e1s altas del pa\u00eds y el octavo de Norteam\u00e9rica, por detr\u00e1s del monte Lucania, a 5.226 metros sobre el nivel del mar, en Alaska.<\/p>\n<p>Sus campos de hielo y nieve siempre han atra\u00eddo la atenci\u00f3n de los monta\u00f1eros por su espectacularidad. Debido a su mayor complejidad en comparaci\u00f3n con los otros dos volcanes m\u00e1s altos de M\u00e9xico, ofrece interesantes y variadas rutas de ascenso por terreno helado. En algunos lugares de la monta\u00f1a presenta manifestaciones incipientes de actividad, como fumarolas, manantiales y rocas alteradas por gases volc\u00e1nicos.<\/p>\n<p>Los ecosistemas de esta monta\u00f1a van desde bosques de con\u00edferas (pinos y abetos), encinas, mes\u00f3filo de monta\u00f1a y zacatal de alta monta\u00f1a principalmente.
