Día de los Muertos

Guided Hike: 5 km / Fitness level: Easy / Group Size: Up to 8 people

You will be part of this incredible celebration: Día de los Muertos. You will participate in a journey of love and gratitude for our deceased ones. You will travel deeply into the traditions of Mexico and Oaxaca. The day of the dead is a sensitive date, those who are gone, come from the underworld to visit us. We have been invited by our friends from Atzompa to visit their homes and their altars, which is an honor to attend. They are a family of artisans dedicated to pottery and clay tradition.

We start the experience at the Coyote terrace, we will have a drink + a makeup session to get ready, then we´ll drive 40 minutes to get to Atzompa.

Outside the community, in nature, in a place inhabited by Zapotec grandparents, we will make an offering by the hand of our local hosts to honor our ancestors. Then we´ll visit their home to continue the rituals at the main altar and we’ll share dinner in memory of our deceased.

After that, we are walking through the cemetery to feel the atmosphere on such important day for the families. Definitely an experience to understand the appreciation for the dead in Oaxaca.
