Epic Hierve el Agua Hike + Teotitlán
Guided Hike: 7 km / Fitness level: Intermediate / Group Size: Up to 10 people
WHAT YOU’LL DO
We meet at 6:00 AM in Macedonio Alcalá 802, Centro, Oaxaca de Juárez, Oaxaca, ring the bell ‘’A’’, between Bicibella and Café Punto Paz
A drive of 1:50 hrs to the town of San Isidro Roaguía (Hierve el Agua), where an authentic delicious breakfast will be waiting (hot chocolate and coffee will be served).
As we arrive at Hierve el Agua, we will explore the whole area and look at Hierve from many different perspectives. You will have free time at the pools where you will have a chance to refresh and swim in the healing thermal (not hot) waters of Hierve el Agua… swim, meditate, or just contemplate the beautiful view of the valley below.
There are many stories about this Natural Wonder. We’ll have plenty of time to enjoy this paradise. Wonder around, meditate, take pictures, relax, swim… and we will then begin the 7km hike down the valley to reach another secret hidden oasis! (a real waterfall unknown to most travelers, hidden inside an enigmatic small canyon). For most, it is the highlight of the day. Refreshing in these waters at the end of the hike will revitalize your body and mind.
We will then go to Teotitlán del Valle, a world-famous town where colourful weavings are produced my local families. We will visit Josefina’s home for an authentic artistic and cultural experience that will be difficult to forget. The traditional food will be served in her house just next to the looms. Many travelers comment this is the best meal they have had during their trip.
Join us in this great experience that will be difficult to forget!
Outdoor activities carry risks, and you may be exposed to dangerous situations as part of this experience. Make sure you can participate safely given your abilities and the conditions (such as location, weather, and equipment).
This hike, although short (7km), is mostly downhill in rough terrain. Gravel and loose rock paths.
We recommend bringing hiking shoes or boots with good grip. Considered level intermediate. The temperature in Oaxaca might get very hot, so it’s important to stay hydrated! Don’t forget sunscreen and sunglasses.
