SAN JOSÉ DEL PACÍFICO
OAXACA, MÉXICO
3 DAY / 2 NIGHT TRIP
LEAVING FROM OAXACA CITY

    • Live for 3 days in the mountains of the Sierra Sur, in the heart of the enchanted forest.
    • Spend a few days in communion with nature.
    • Learn about rituals, curanderismo, and traditional Mexican medicine.
    • Take a deep and regenerative journey.

WHERE WILL YOU STAY?

In the heart of the Sierra Sur: an Eco village. The cabins are built with natural materials. The food comes from the ecological land. Wood from the forest for the chimney fire inside your cabin. As the weather changes 9 times a day, the sun, the moon, the stars come a little closer. This is the place where dreams and fairytales come to life.

Cabins are located in a paradisiac land, overlooking the mountains and often above the clouds. The perfect place to heal and connect with yourself and nature.

FROM ANCIENT MAGIC TO MODERN MEDICINE

Neurotrophic fungi, known as entheogens, were in the past very important to Mesoamerican cultures and were part of their worldview, ritual practices and medicine. These mushroom retreat cultures had an attitude of respect and veneration for mushrooms, accumulating extensive knowledge about them. Mushrooms were used to cure diseases, divination practices, magical-religious gatherings, soul healing, etc.

Unfortunately, the conquest and colonial period had a negative impact on these practices, almost leading to their extinction.  Thanks to the resilience of peoples like the Mazatec, Nahua, Zapotec, among others, as well as the biology and ecology of these  psilocybin mushrooms, this important part of the country’s bioculture has been preserved. However, around the 1950s after the visit of Gordon Wasson to María Sabina in Huautla de Jiménez, in the Mazateca region of Oaxaca, widespread research was prohibited following the rapid transmission of information of these medicines.  Nowadays, there seems to be an openness to utilize these mushrooms beyond the country’s borders, offering hope to reintroduce their responsible use among the population in alignment with the traditional precepts and practices of indigenous groups mentioned earlier.

Coyote Aventuras’ retreat carefully considers and values this biocultural heritage, as through respectful management, medicine and humanity can explore new paths to address many of the current challenges, contributing to a different relationship with the environment and others.

ABOUT COYOTE:

Coyote Aventuras was born in 2015 partly due to insight that occurred thanks to the use of entheogens. We are very conscious of the positive outcomes that can occur with the responsible use of psilocybe and other sacred plants, and therefore we offer services that are in-sync with this practice. We do what we do because we also believe that outdoor adventures and activities, in paradisiacal places, have healing powers for our body and minds. This is of utmost importance today as we believe that by sharing these experiences, there is hope for a better world.

Please read carefully: Our relationship and approach to psilocybe and other sacred plants.
